FREE VERSE REVOLUTION

All

gone

suddenly, swallowed

by

big

nothing.

I’ve buried them

within

the layers of

my

skin.

The women

I’d

adored-

Red soaked

wool

itching

my

soul.

Maddened,

I

scratch

The pestilence

that festers

too

beautifully

to quit.

No,

I cannot

quit.

These scars are

proof

they existed.

Itching My Soul is from Austin’s most recent collection of poetry, All the Beginnings of Everything.
