“Let he who has not sinned
cast the first stone.” -Jesus
“Whatever words we utter should be chosen with care
for people will hear them and be influenced
by them for good or ill.” -Buddha
Pride joined with many virtues
chokes them all. -Jewish Proverb
“Human decency is not derived from religion.
It precedes it.” -Christopher Hitchens, antitheist, author, columnist, and journalist
I love America and the right to practice religion without persecution–all religion. Oh, wait. Not all religions are treated respectfully. For example, the Muslim people are presently being targeted by ignorant hatred and violence. Those who speak up for our Muslim-American citizens are viewed as “bleeding heart liberals” and supporters of terrorism by many, including the Tea Party Conservatives, which comes as no great surprise, as these are the same fools under the spell of Donald Trump, who in my lifetime is about the biggest bigot and xenophobe I have ever had the displeasure of suffering. His words are vomit, and his supporters lap that shit up like loyal pups. Fuuuhhh…
All of that being said, Trump has the right to voice his opinions, just like every other free American. You don’t want to welcome refugees? Go ahead, say so. You stand against Planned Parenthood? LGBTQ rights and marriage equality? Gays in the military? Great. To each their own; you have the right to your belief that these people are not human beings worthy of civil liberties. But that’s your opinion. And individual opinions should not dictate law. Nor should religion. I’m talking to you people who claim to be Christians. Contrary to popular belief, America was not built upon Christianity. Read the fucking Constitution, for fuck’s sake.
I am not anti-Christian. I am anti-bigots who wear a Christian mask. You assholes with all of your despicable signs, shouting that God hates gays, protesting military funerals of fallen gay soldiers…those gay soldiers died fighting to protect your freedom and the right to hate them. No, I’m not anti-Christian. It’s just that I believe Human Rights should be held above religion, as it is also my belief that one does not have to subscribe to any religion to be a moral human being. But, for the sake of argument, let us pretend I am a good Christian, a follower of Jesus. Jesus was a pretty radical dude, even for this age; Jesus didn’t hate, and if he were in the flesh, among us all now, he would not be marching with the KKK, or any other group whose foundation is hatred.
Hatred, pride, and judgment are our worst enemies. In my ideal world, we would all feed more, clothe more, teach more, and love more.
